STOP THE PRESSES

Style bloggers Kristin and Valerie of BleachBlack have a nail polish line. This is the  duo's second business venture, the first being their “wildly successful jewelry collab with Urban Outfitters." The first color from their line is called “Dickweed,” which is a combination of “Japanese Beetle Green” and “Malachite Stones with a hint of metallic shine.” Rrrrrrrrrright because when I hear the word “dickweed,” I think immediately think of Japanese beetles and malachite stones. Thankfully, Kristin attempts to harmonize my discord with, “[t]here’s too much blushy pink going on. Fashion has become too serious. We are honestly just fucking around and hav[ing] fun with this project.” I see. I think Ke$ha would remark the same about her music career.

Now, their kitschy line has a second color, aptly called “Jizz,” [blank stare] described as a “pearlescent, milky-white hue.” And in true form, top fashion blogger Rumi of Fashiontoast is photographed painting her nails with the imitation protein, packaged in a bottle for mass consumption.

I can’t say that I’m sold folks. I get that sex sells but this unmitigated marketing of commodities is ridiculous. What will the next color/name combination be -- Aunt Flow for a rich red with blackberry accents. Let’s stop expensing every single last aspect/thing in life for the almighty dollar, pretty please?

As long as users don't swallow the "Jizz" nail paint, young women purchasing the product should be safe.

Yo, home grrl, I'd trademark that name Aunt Flow. If my ladies used it to signify their monthly times, I'd know betta than to hit tha' thing without getting a bloody stick 'n balls.

I must be doing something right because I'm finally starting to get some negative comments! : )

@ Anon April 16, 2010 / 3:54pm - I don't hate Rumi but I don't obsessively worship her. Furthermore, I think my post shares my disdain for Bleachblack's nail polish line more than anything else -- let's trying to stay on task.

@ Anon April 16, 2010 / 4:26pm - I don't know what you're talking about.

I know Queen doesn't hate me. I'm pretty sure we have a normal amount of respect for each other and I value the comments she leaves for not sugarcoating shit.

The name is half ridiculous and half fun..it's not going to change anyone's life for the better or worse in any sort of extreme way. There are countless makeup brands that are 95% more about the presentation and marketing than the actual product so I'm surprised this is causing such ripples. It's just a rad pearly white with a name that's entertaining for five seconds when you tell your friends about it. Or in this case, the internet.
