Orient Watches, is owned by Mark Kim, a graduate from Carnegie Mellon. Kim, who has been involved in the horology industry for most of his life, gained most of his knowledge from his father, who owned and operated a watch assembly factory with an excess of several hundred employees.

What's rather unique about Orient Watches (other than the fact that most are hand assembled) is that they are mechanical. A mechanical watch is solely powered by a mainspring, without the use of electric power. A mainspring watch is wound by the movement of the arm on which it is worn, and it also stores energy. Translation: as you wear your watch, you power it!

As the temps continue to drop here in the tri-state area, I find myself dreaming of warmer states: Southern Florida, Texas and California. Speaking of California, have you seen the acts scheduled to play at this year's Coachella? I'd love to see M83, Cat Power, Rapture, RADIOHEAD, Feist, Santigold, Justice, Florence + the Machine, Grace Potter and the Nocutrals and several others but Feist said it best with, "It may be years until the day / my dreams will match up with my pay." Maybe next year!

[Last Night's Party] From Casino to The Woods

Above are just some of the beautiful people present at Casino (formally the Ludlow Manor) and The Woods. In all of my years spent haunting the Lower East Side, I never once heard the name Ludlow Manor, so perhaps the invention of Casino was a good idea. Casino was about as dark and smokey as you'd imagine most any venue in Manhattan, particularly on the LES, filled with a crop of downtown folk. Dark nail polish, bright red lips, lace, and heavy metal arm candy were on pretty much all of the women. The men were varied: anywhere from tattoos and long hair to cleaner cuts with collared shirts and denim. The music was good but it wasn't consistent. I felt as though the DJ allowed the momentum of the evening to die entirely too early considering the amount of people present in the venue (they had to have been near capacity). Management may want to think on that for upcoming events.

The Woods virtually never fails. Tucked away in a seemingly remote section of Williamsburg, The Woods is always packed with people who just want to dance. And those people will dance until the venue closes. The drinks were noticeably cheaper than Casino (I mean, we're in Brooklyn) so the combination of the two made for the perfect evening for fun with friends. And for those of you looking for somewhere to "post up" and look for the opposite sex, The Woods is not the place. Try the meat market at Union Pool (also in Williamsburg); it is much closer to a subway station/bridge so you can make your getaway with whatever is on that night's menu.

[Last Night's Party] Le Bain's Mercury Nights at The Standard Hotel

Last night, I enjoyed a wonderful evening of dancing with some of my girlfriends at Le Bain. Known for some pretty wild summer parties, Le Bain is one of the two hot spots located inside The Standard Hotel in New York. Le Bain boasts of breath-taking views of New York City, roof-access (when seasonally appropriate) and bathrooms with floor-to-ceiling window walls. But before you freak out about some passerby watching you tinkle, take comfort in the fact that Le Bain is located on the 18th floor, safe from the eyes of mere mortals (as long as they don't have binoculars).

The music was great; I definitely lost it when I heard Robyn's 'Hang with me.' Chrissy and I mixed and mingled, meeting other party goers from as far away as The Netherlands to as close as Williamsburg. It's always nice to go out and meet people with great energy. I highly recommend Le Bain to anyone visiting New York City and looking for a fun midweek party, that won't be filled with a bunch of pretentious assholes and/or bottle chasers. Just make sure you get on the guest list; it's entirely too cold to wait on a line for a venue.

[Happy Holidays] Rebecca Minkoff's Casio G-Shock Launch Party

A few nights ago, I had the pleasure of attending Rebecca Minkoff's Casio G-Shock Launch Party at The Back Room in New York. Rebecca Minkoff teamed up with Baby-G to create her own unique timepiece, representative of the "downtown romantic" aesthetic we've come to know and love. I love that Minkoff's watch, unlike other Baby-Gs, is made of a black ion plate with a matte black stainless steel and resin finish. And the watch wouldn't be a Minkoff without perfectly offsetting the black with a pink champagne dial. [Vanity Fair] A Winter Safari in AKA New York

AKA New York Safari Romper (worn as a top), American Apparel Multi-Layered Reversible Petticoat, YSL Tribute Platform Pumps, Henri Bendel Bracelet, and Michael Kors Watch.

I absolutely love my AKA New York Safari Romper but wearing a silk onesie during the fall/winter months would be grounds for my committal to an asylum. So, I did what any young woman, desperate to continue wearing her favorite spring/summer piece (within some measure of reason) would do; I layered. I paired the romper with opaque tights and placed a petticoat over-top the bottom half of the romper, concealing the shorts. And as luck would have it, the sleeves on the romper can be adjusted to wrist length. Granted, my look is nowhere near "on trend," but you know I don't care about that. I just care about my romper seeing the light of day before April 2012.

Dannijo Bea Necklace: It is no secret that I'm thoroughly obsessed with Dannijo. The Bea would be an excellent addition to my humble but colorful jewelry collection as a transition piece from day to evening.
Dannijo Sinatra Necklace: Yet another fantastic piece from Dannijo for the Peter Pan collar aficionado.
YSL Beastie Ring: I love that semi-precious stone is being held in what appears to be talons. Rings with animalistic accents are always a winner in my book.
Christian Louboutin Bibi 140 Suede Platform Pumps: Those pumps are not only classic but quite versatile, thanks to the nude color.
Prada Butterfly Sunglasses: Although those particular Prada sunglasses are from an older season, they are still classic, especially for someone with my particular head shape and size. Unfortunately, I don't believe that they're in production anymore.
YSL Tribute Sandals in Python: PETA is going to hate me for that one. I just noticed that somehow, that sandal dropped from the thousands to the hundreds -- talk about a recession special!
Kara Ross Small Shirt Cuff: PETA is going to hate me for that one as well. I'm pretty sure that Ross uses lizard skin but I wouldn't lose sleep over that bracelet.
Celine Luggage Tote: The tote speaks for itself.
Antik Batik Lisa Sequin Dress: I randomly came across the Lisa dress on sale somewhere months ago. Since then, I've been dying to get my hands on her -- she'd be perfect for New Years Eve (not that I have any plans).
Chanel Jumbo Flap: As if I even need to tell you, person on a fashion blog, why I want/need that bag.

[Last Night's Party] Pamela Love ShopStyle Launch Party at Tribeca Grand

Last night, my friends and I attended the Pamela Love ShopStyle launch party at Tribeca Grand. Love (seen in the first image, on the right), a native New Yorker, originally designed jewelry for personal wear. In just a few short years, Love went from creating pieces for self-expression to an individual line, as well as collaborations with some designer heavyweights: Zac Posen, Yigal Azrouel and Marchesa to name a few. And just recently, Love was the receipient of the CFDA Fashion Fund, which honored her for her promise as a rising talent in the fashion industry.

Kanon Vodka provided the beverages while Becka Diamond did her best to get the guests on the dance floor. I spotted Kelly Framel of The Glamourai, with her signature short curls and bright lip. What I did not see was any jewelry! One of my friends mentioned that there were a few pieces on a tray somewhere; I thought that was strange considering the event was about the launch of a capsule collection for ShopStyle. The jewelry should have been featured in such a way that the pieces were the focus, not the open bar. Nevertheless, my friends and I had an enjoyable evening; there's nothing like a jewelry launch party to kick off the gift giving season.

The American Apparel Lace Print Tricot Dress is not for the timid. The form-fitting, scoop back dress will bring out your inner bombshell, especially if you're built like me. I was most certainly intimated by the almost second-skin nature of the dress; I don't workout as I should and eat horribly. However, there is something about American Apparel's particular nylon blend that really holds you in, smoothing out all of the somatic bumps. I almost never feel sexy in the clothing that I'm wearing so the AA Lace Print Tricot Dress is a necessary evil in my wardrobe. American Apparel Chiffon Oversized Button Up, Halston Heritage D-Ring Belt, Pleasure Doing Business Bandage Skirt, Spanx Tight End Tights, Henri Bendel Bracelet and Yves Saint Laurent Platform Pump.

I absolutely love the American Apparel Chiffon Oversized Button Up. I was concerned that the roominess of the button up would overwhelm me but that wasn't an issue. In fact, the roominess has allowed me to wear the button up in a variety of ways: tucked into a high waist skirt or jean, untucked over same, tied up in the front -- you really can't go wrong with the button up.

Although I'm not a huge fan of belting tops, my D-Ring belt was the perfect accessory. I don't own a lot of jewelry, so the belt operated as such. Thus the button up went from being a nod to menswear to a feminine tunic. Expect to see future posts with the button up; the ease of wear, comfort and overall sexiness will keep that top in heavy rotation for me this season.

Jill Stuart Sasha Coat, American Apparel Multi-Layered Reversible Petticoat, American Apparel Large Leather Carry-All Pouch, and Alexander Wang Constance Ankle Boots.

A few years back, I made it a point to purchase one nice cold weather coat for myself each fall/winter season. In 2007, I picked up the above Sasha Coat from Jill Stuart in Soho. Of all of the coats that I own, Jill Stuart's Sasha swing coat is one of my favorites. The coat is so easy to wear, whether for day, with a pair of jeans and flat boats or for night, with a dress, tights, and heels. I love the military inspired button detail, as well as the evocation of a dress.

Jill Stuart's Fall 2007 Ready-To-Wear was one of my favorite collections (you may recall the Brigitte Bardot via Lindsay Lohan ad campaign). The Fall 2007 RTW collection was my first formal introduction to the designer Jill Stuart, who definitely played to my fashion sensibilities. The collection was replete with Peter Pan collar shift dresses, copious amounts of black and navy, large round button accents, leather trims that would have made Wednesday Addams proud. I haven't purchased my cold weather coat for this fall/winter season as yet, but I will certainly be combing the racks at Jill Stuart for my next great piece.

Zara Jacket, American Apparel Leaf Flower Lace Tee, Pleasure Doing Business Bandage Skirt, Spanx Tight End Tights, and Yves Saint Laurent Platform Pump.

Every woman should possess a healthy amount of black clothing in her wardrobe. I always find myself reaching for a black jacket, skirt or blouse whenever I'm in need of a safe and stylish touch to an outfit.

The Zara jacket that I'm wearing has been worn at least a dozen times since I purchased it late this past summer. The jacket is just so versatile. In the first image, I'm wearing it without the zippered belt. In the final image, I'm wearing it with the zipper belt, but slightly ajar. There's something sort of Chanel about it; every look is instantly made more sophisticated because of it. And being black only makes the jacket that more fabulous. It is by far, my favorite piece going into the fall/winter seasons.

I received that playful fringe hood tee in the gift bag from the Wildfox Couture presentation and afterparty during the recent NYFW. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull it off. I've always envisioned the Wildfox girl as some wayward waif with golden locks and sparkling eyes. It's nice to know that a brand like Wildfox can be embraced by regular girls you and me. You'll definitely catch me sporting more of their pieces in time. Fashion fantasy is finally starting to meet reality.

[Reality Bites] Camilla and Marc Equinox Frock Dress

Beautiful, isn't she? I fell in love with Camilla and Marc's Equinox Frock Dress in Glacier sometime last week, while randomly browsing the internet. The Equinox Frock Dress was from the Camilla and Marc Spring 2011 Collection and on sale at Saks. Unfortunately, Saks was down to a size 10 (which I contemplated purchasing and having altered for a few days). So I did what any obsessive person would do, I emailed pretty much every retail outlet that carried the out-of-season dress in the vain hope of finding it. And I did.

The Armadale Boutique in Melbourne, Australia carried the dress and what's more, the last size was my size. You can image my delight when I read that news. You can also image my displeasure when the dress was being offered to me nearly double what it was here in the United States. My heart sank. I exchanged emails with sales representatives about price-matching (vain hope, yet again) but was denied. So I accepted that the dress wasn't meant to be mine, a very bitter pill for an obsessive person to swallow. And I was okay with it, until I came across this advertisement,

Why, that's my dress and it's headed to a sample sale nearest you, if you're in Melbourne, Australia. So, I basically felt as though the salesperson was only taking advantage of my want for the dress and let's be frank, my American dollars. I've worked in retail before, so I understand the desire to want to sell something for a higher price-point if possible. I'm just disappointed with the customer service. I know I can't have it all, but a little kindness never killed anyone. Nevertheless, I still love the dress and will keep my eyes peeled.

[Vanity Fair] Fall Back to Black with American Apparel

I'm very thankful for the pieces that American Apparel sent over for me to wear. It's been fun incorporating the various lace tees and petticoats into my fall wardrobe. The above outfit was what I wore to an event at Tamsen Z. Founded by Ann Zif, Tamsen Z is a luxury jewelry collection comprised of the rarest and most beautiful gemstones, diamonds and pearls fashioned around their natural forms.

Since the event was on Madison Avenue, I did my best to channel my inner Blair Waldorf and have a little Upper East Side fun. Although typically not something I'd gravitate towards, American Apparel's Reversible Petticoat was just what I needed. The petticoat gave my look the right amount of playful volume for a somewhat serious event. It's funny, I didn't think I could pull of such a darling petticoat outside of Halloween; I can't wait to try other fun looks for fall with it!

[Fashion Bloggers] The Lipstick Files

A few week ago, I purchased my very first lipstick from Sephora. I really don't wear much makeup, just my Laura Mercier oil free foundation. However, the sales associate at Sephora could tell that I was beauty challenged and helped me select a few pieces to enhance my beauty look.

I'm wearing Sephora Rouge lipstick in Crush, Laura Mercier oil free foundation in Deep Bronze, Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Perversion, Maybelline the Falsies mascara and Nars blush in Taos. Ashley is wearing Maybelline "Very Cherry" lipcolor.

The biggest impact to my beauty look without question, has been the Sephora Rouge lipstick in Crush. Whenever I apply the lipstick, my face appears to be brighter. I also think the addition of the Nars blush in Taos has helped with my brighter face. The lipstick and the blush compliment each other perfectly and I wouldn't have had either of them without the assistance of the sales associate at Sephora. So far, I've relegated the lipstick to evenings/special occasions until I feel more comfortable with wearing it. I would love to try a few more of Sephora's shades, so that I can have a more versatile beauty look and not just have a signature shade. This is new territory for me folks, so please, bear with me!

[Fashion Bloggers] Gone Bowlin' with Ashley4Emergy

During NYFW, I had the pleasure of finally meeting fashion blogger Ashley for Ashley4Emergy. From the moment we first met, I knew that we were going to be friends. That is what I love about fashion blogging and the community -- the relationships that are built over similar interests via the web.

Last week, Brooklyn Bowl (a bowling alley and concert venue in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY) announced on Twitter that the venue would be hosting free bowling and free shoe rentals all evening, for one day only. I immediately invited Ashley so we could hangout, outside of the hustle and bustle of fashion week. Needless to say, we had an amazing time!

The food at Brooklyn Bowl is provided by the same chefs from the Blue Ribbon restaurant chain and if you know anything about Blue Ribbon, you know about their famous fried chicken. I apologize for the lack of proper food porn images but we basically destroyed the 8 pieces we ordered within minutes of their arrival. I also discovered how absolutely delicious hot sauce and honey were together on fried chicken -- I highly recommend giving that combination a try.

After a few hours of bowling -- our scores were so bad, they're laughable -- we stopped by Union Pool for a few drinks and a few laughs. I wish I were apart of some sort of local blogger network; I'd love to meet more of the young women whose lives that I check into almost daily. Perhaps a blogger event at Brooklyn Bowl? [I'm talking to you, owners of Brooklyn Bowl -- let's make that happen!]

[Lookbook] Lily by Lynn Chin

I was asked by designer Lynn Chin to shoot the lookbook for her Spring 2012 Collection, affectionately named Lily. Above are a few images from the shoot. Although Lily is Chin's first collection, Chin is no fashion design rookie. Her resume boasts of fashion heavyweights such as Phillip Lim and Anna Sui. Chin's Spring 2012 Collection focuses on light, wearable pieces for the inner fashion nymph in all of us. The collection is especially perfect for city dwellers looking to soften their look with contemporary basics. The pieces range from delicate lace tunics to comfortable cocoon cardigans. There are several pieces that I can definitely see apart of my spring wardrobe, unfortunately, I've got a long way to go.

A huge thank you to Lynn Chin for allowing me the opportunity to shoot her lookbook. It was my first time shooting anything of the sort, so I hope I did it justice. I also want to thank the model, Alanna Blair, for her patience and grace during the photo shoot. I couldn't have worked with a better model.

[New York Fashion Week] Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective

During New York Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of attending Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld & Andy Valmorbida, with Giogio Armani's presentation of Richard Hambleton at Phillips de Pury & Co. The exhibition is the final installment of an international series curated by Roitfeld and Valmorbida, in collaboration with Armani, has included solo shoes in Milan, Cannes, Moscow, London, and New York. Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective highlights 50 of Hamblton's most influential works spanning from 1982 to the present, as well as twenty iconic images of the artist's work chronicled by photographer Hank O'Neal.

From his "Mass Murder" installations of the late 1970s, in which he secretly placed blood-splattered, chalk-body outlines throughout 15 cities, to his "Shadowman" series of the 1980s, where ominous, shadowy figures were painted in unexpected corners, alleys, and side streets, Richard Hambleton has permeated our collective consciousness with unforgettable images for over three decades. One of the only surviving members of a peer group that included Warhol, Basquiat, and Haring, Hambleton has been living a reclusive life in his Lower East Side studio for the past twenty years.

Above are a few examples of Hambleton's work alongside some of his very fashionable guests. The event was filled with noteworthy guests, such as Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Bar Refaeli, Camilla Alves and Lauren Hutton. However, I was far more interested in what the non-celebrities were wearing and they did not disappoint.

[Something New] Alexander Wang Constance Ankle Boots

Feast your eyes on my Alexander Wang Constance Ankle Boots and my French Bulldog Hogan! For some reason, he decided that he wanted to make another cameo on my blog and sat down right next to the shoes. Isn't he adorable?

Alexander Wang isn't known for designing comfortable footwear, so prepare your feet for a workout. I consider the Constance to be the, "cab-to the venue-to the cab" shoes because casual walking is simply out of the question. The stacked heel measures at 5.5 inches with no arch support, creating quite a precarious situation. Nevertheless, the Constance are apart of my fall/winter wardrobe and I can't wait to wear them with some of my favorite pieces, such as my Nanette Lepore Poison Ring Coat. Bring on the cold weather already!

[In defense of ] Scott Schuman

Fashion media has worked itself into a tizzy over The Talks’ interview of Scott Schuman, creator of The Sartorialist. The partisan interviewer opened and conducted the interview with leading questions, hardly seeking answers but rather validation. Of course Schuman wasn’t required to agree with the interviewer’s perspective on teen bloggers, such as Tavi Gavinson of The Style Rookie, but it is important to note the interviewer’s approach. The interviewer asked questions which suggested answers he anticipated, hence the nature of the interview. And although the interviewer started the fire, Schuman received considerable criticism for adding the gas. Now, that isn’t to say Schuman shouldn’t be criticized for his comments rather, an observation that was made (by me) and largely overlooked by the media.

This should go without saying but Schuman is entitled to his opinion(s), no matter how harsh. Although he came off as arrogant, his position on, for example, the disconnect between a teenager and someone in his/her mid-to-late 20s was accurate. On a basic level, there is a connection between the two age groups, that requires very little life experience such as, the appreciation of beautiful images and clothing. However, when it comes to certain life experiences, there is no substitute for them. All of the impressive writing in the world simply cannot replace adult situations such as student loans and unemployment. Schuman recognized the disconnect and discussed it. Perhaps that was what shocked readers the most, that the connection between a teenager and someone in his/her mid-to-late 20s was superficial at best.

The remainder of the hot topics in the interview should not come as a surprise. Schuman is a world-renowned street style photographer and blogger. Famous individuals tend to generate large sums of money; it’s the nature of the beast. And what boyfriend wouldn’t say that his girlfriend’s anything is the most amazing?

Schuman is being crucified for injecting reality into the blogger fame machine: magazine sales are dwindling, some bloggers are merely puppets for various companies and “the business of blogging” is hard work. But those messages were lost due to his criticism of Gavinson and disclosure of his advertising income. For those of you who are only interested in the fantasies that Schuman has to offer, don’t read anything he says and enjoy his images. They are beautiful. But remember, reality is out there and it includes things that you may not like, such as Schuman’s opinions.

[Indian Summer] Getting Real in my Sperry Top-Sider

Earlier this summer, I received a pair of boat shoes from Sperry Top-Sider. In retrospect, I cannot imagine surviving a summer in NYC, commuting almost 6 days a week, without my Sperrys. They were my go-to daily shoe and if I had an event, they were on my feet until I was a block away. I lived in my Sperry boat shoes.

Now that the temperatures are dropping, I am in the market for a shoe similar to my boat shoes but with a more professional flare. Instead of a summery canvas upper, perhaps a nod to fall with a leather. After browsing Sperry's website, I think penny loafers may be the way to go. I've always wanted a pair and I know with Sperry, comfort and quality won't take a backseat to style. My favorite styles are the Men's Gold Cup Dress Beef Roll Penny Loafer and the Men's Tremont Kiltie Tassel. It might be some time before I can get my hands on pair (since I am unemployed) but they are on the top of my fall must haves list.

The kind people over at American Apparel sent me some items to shoot for them of their upcoming and current pieces. I was pretty flattered (and still am) because I don't shoot with anything fancy and photojournalism isn't my trade. I will be posting a series of shoots that I've done with the clothing that was sent to me (both women's and men's) of basic pieces that everyone can wear.

[New York Fashion Week] Outside Patiently Waiting @ Parkchoonmoo

Believe it or not, I actually preferred the shows/presentations that weren't at Lincoln Center. The experiences were less "show and tell" and more about those truly interested in seeing what the designers had to offer. Off-site shows/presentations weren't swarmed with photographers and aspiring street style bloggers so I was able to just catch small moments before the show. It just felt so natural; no posing or unnecessary outfits for the sake of being photographed.

[New York Fashion Week] Nazanin Mandi @ Phillips de Pury

Resident sex kitten is wearing an American Apparel bodysuit, Christian Louboutin pumps and everything else is vintage.

On the second night of NYFW, I had the pleasure of attending the Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective at Phillips de Pury. The event was of course, star-studded with Giorgio Armani, Carine Roitfeld, Karolina Kurkova, Mary-Kate Olsen and Lindsay Lohan. The exhibit was equally as impressive as the guestlist but more on that in a forthcoming post. For now, I'd like to dedicate this post to the above anonymous woman that I ran into while heading to another event. She was the definition of what NYFW should represent: breath-taking personal style from head to toe.

UPDATE: I just came across the identity of the above woman while browsing one of my favorite gossip sites TheYBF.com. Her name is Nazanin Mandi. It turns out that the resident sex kitten is actually an accomplished model and currently the girlfriend of singer Miguel! I love meeting do-to-earth famous people, especially when they allow me to shoot them without fuss.

[New York Fashion Week] Wildfox Couture Presentation & Party

I honestly prefer presentations to runway shows. There's significantly less posturing involved and the attendee has an intimate experience with each look.

I received an invitation to checkout Wildfox Couture Spring 2012 in The Library at the Soho House. I was pleasantly surprised and not by the collection but by my reaction towards the collection. I found myself falling in love with not only the whimsical pieces (e.g. large stars, sequins, tiered floor-length skirts, cozy knits) but the carefree, Southern California vibe of the presentation. All of sudden, I wanted to shake off my NYC attitude and "all black everything" wardrobe and slip on a slightly oversized shoulder bearing knit, tattered denim shorts and a pair of Frye boots. Wildfox offers up a flavor of bohemian that I can totally dig, especially with the free top that was included in my gift tote bag.

[New York Fashion Week] The Frye Company

Last week, Lauren and I were invited to attend The Frye Company store opening celebration at The Cunard Building. The venue was breathtakingly beautiful; think Renaissance with vault ceilings, oak doors, decorative sculptures and fluted columns. We noshed on delicious appetizers, sipped sweet drinks served in mason jars and danced the night away to live performances. The Frye Company definitely knows how to throw a party. Upon our departure, we were presented with invitations to pick up our exclusive, limited edition gifts from the flagship store in Soho. Hopefully this weekend, I'll have the opportunity to not only check out the shop but my gift as well.

I had the privilege of attending Rebecca Minkoff's after party last night at Rose Bar, located in the Gramercy Park Hotel. While sipping delicious drinks from Veuve Clicquot & Pom Wonderful, I spied quite a few celebrity attendees: Nicky Hilton, Solange, Corinne Bailey Rae, Chanel Iman as well as popular fashion bloggers Trop Rouge and Song of Style. As a parting gift, Rebecca Minkoff's team gave each attendee a black box containing a small bottle of vodka, Proper Attire Condoms and a gift card for six months of Pom Wonderful beverages. The Minkoff team not only understands NYC nightlife but the importance of being responsible.

Don't get too used to outfit posts. I'm no model and am fortunate to have someone who doesn't mind documenting my less-than-amazing looks from time to time. I won't lie, I do enjoying getting my America's Next Top Model on in front of the camera. I'm comfortable in what I'm wearing and it's all real, well, except for my weave (although my weave is REAL hair).

This summer I discovered Pleasure Doing Business (PDB). I absolutely love their bandage skirts. Normally, I'd only wear flouncy skirts because of my muscular legs but now, thanks to PDB, I can have fun with the body con look without a full-on body con dress. I look forward to their Fall 2011 with great anticipation.

As for my holey Kain Label t-shirt, I just can't let it go. I have another Kain Label t-shirt and it is just as holey. As I'm sure you all know, Kain t-shirts don't come cheap so, if I'm going to spend the money, then I'm going to wear the t-shirt until it is unwearable. Holes doth not make a t-shirt unwearable (unless I have a job interview or something of the sort).

[Lights Out] Happy Birthday to Me

I apologize for my absence. I've been busy trying to sort out my life but not too busy to enjoy my birthday dinner with some close girlfriends. We enjoyed a wonderful meal Cipriani Downtown. Lauren has dined at Cipriani many times, so we had a wonderful selection appetizers, entrees and deserts. Above is an image of my entree, the sea bass. I highly recommend it.

I'm usual known for wearing the uniform on a daily basis, I decided to dress up a bit with an AKA blouse, Pleasure Doing Business bandage skirt, Rachel Leigh necklace and Prada leopard animal fur heels. I was affectionately known for the evening as the "black Kardashian."

After dinner, we grabbed a table at The Soho Grand and enjoyed a bottle of my favorite champagne, Veuve Clicquot, while we danced the night away. Eventually, we found ourselves on the LES and in the middle of a major rainstorm but overall, I had a really enjoyable night. Although friends may come and go like seasons, I feel very thankful for those who are ever-present in my life.

[Fall Preview] Elizabeth and James E-Moxy

I'm sure you're all familiar with Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's modern lifestyle brand Elizabeth and James which spans from women's to now, a men's line. I'm not familiar with any of clothing, as I don't own any but the above pair is my second piece from their footwear collection. I basically scoured the internet for the E-Moxy booties since January, coming close in February with a black leather pair from Bergdorf Goodman. Unfortunately, that pair was a 1/2 too big, so I had to return them. A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the above pair on theOutnet, Net-A-Porter's discount site notorious for posting loads of past season merchandise. Not only were the booties on sale but my size was available! Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase, I do have two criticisms about Elizabeth and James footwear.

Sizing. I am a solid US 9 or European 40. I already have a pair of shoes from Elizabeth and James (seen here) and although they fit perfectly at a size 9, they're slingbacks. The E-Moxy's fit but they aren't terribly comfortable. I'm hoping that after I've properly broken them in, they'll be easier to wear; I just their size 9s were more uniform.

Quality. The shoes look and feel great but I can't help this nagging quality concern that I have. I'm pleased that these shoes are manufactured in Brazil and not China, so perhaps they will stand the test of time and the many hard wears that I will give them! After just running around in the booties in my yard and on the sidewalk, I can tell that they will need to be resoled after a few hard wears which is a bit annoying. In the end, how the shoes hold up is merely a question of time.

Nevertheless, I can't wait to wear these babies come the fall and winter. I think they'll look especially adorable with my Nanette Lepore Poison Ring Coat (seen here). There's nothing like buying for fall and winter during the summer!

Sometimes, it is easier just to shoot what your friends are wearing because they do it better. In the summer, especially summer in the city, I get caught up in my uniform so I'm not much to look at (unless you fancy denim + t-shirts until you die). I always love Lauren's interpretation of trends; she's current but still integrates her personal flare. Instead of piling on loads of necklaces and bracelets and wearing beaded flats in the spirit of what's "in," she wore only two gold pieces and a healthy glow. The best accessories are the ones we already have folks, our skin and our hair.

If I had to subsist off of 5 pieces of jewelry for the rest of my life, the above pieces from Dannijo would more than suffice. Dannijo is decadence without Dynasty; dramatic stone and metal combinations without costume effect. There are at least a dozen Dannijo pieces that I would love to own from their current collection. Unfortunately, their price tags have given me pause; the pieces range anywhere from a few to several hundred dollars. If only my dreams matched up with my pay.

[Summer] OPI Mani + Pedi Delights

On my fingers: San-Tan-tonio / On my toes: Samoan Sand

Some of my favorite summer beauty treats to myself are manicures and pedicures. When I have my nails done, it is akin to having that statement piece of jewelry or overly opulent blouse or dress for some young women. Unfortunately, you won't catch me sporting all of the trendy nail styles (i.e. shattered, ornate rhinestone decorations ala Harujuku) as I'm pretty basic with my color and technique. I prefer my natural nails to synthetics, mainly because synthetics destroy your natural nails -- that, and I have really nice natural nails. Also, the wide variety of neutrals offered by OPI will certainly keep me in nail lacquer heaven for quite some time. The above two images are of my current summer favorites by OPI: Samoan Sand and San-Tan-tonio. I know I don't have the most beautiful feet in the world but they are mine and clearly, haha, I own them.

[Broke in the City] Nightcap Victorian Lace Dress

Nightcap's Victorian Lace Dress is providence realized. After trying the dress on some weeks back at the Dolce Vita shop on the Lower East Side, I was absolutely smitten. The blush color accented my skin perfectly. Unfortunately, the price tag did not agree with my bank account. The dress continued to haunt me during a recent meet up with a female friend only this time, in black. I knew I had to have the dress. Fortunately for me, a website which shall go unnamed, made the mistake of posting the dress in a heavily discounted section. I couldn't resist finally owning the lace dress of my dreams, at the price that it was being offered at! After my purchase, the site in question almost immediately corrected their mistake but allowed me to keep my dress at the unbelievable price. I seriously cannot believe my luck!

[EAT] Gemma @ The Bowery Hotel, NYC

The above images were taken earlier today during a late lunch that I shared with a friend at Gemma, located inside of The Bowery Hotel. Today's lunch was my first time eating at Gemma, a magnet for celebrities and socialites but I was just there truly for the food. Here are some details to accompany the above food porn images:

Insalate. Beets, Mizuna, Goat Cheese, and Pistachios.

Absolutely delicious -- I'm really into salads with goat cheese and beets, so if you're into the combination as well, then I highly recommend you order this salad. The mizuna was delectable, a nice change of greenery pace for me (former arugula addict). The pistachios were a brilliant and unexpected addition to the soft textures and sweet flavors of the salad. The salty + crunchy of the pistachios added the perfect balance. I think that the lunch portion of this salad should definitely be doubled.

Paste. Pappadelle with Oxtail Ragu.

I thought this dish was pretty unusual considering it's a pasta with oxtail. For those of you who don't know what oxtail is, it is basically the gelatinous meat located in the tail of an ox. When oxtail is prepared correctly, it is mouth-watering delicious. I think the chef did a decent job with the dish as a meat sauce pasta, but I wasn't in love with it. I was hoping for a pasta dish that really featured the flavors of the oxtail. Unfortunately, the ragu was a bit of a disappointment in that regard and I probably won't be ordering this dish again.

Dolci. Torta di Cioccolato.

The dessert was a recommendation from our waiter. The torta was very rich and tasty -- a warm chocolate cake with a small scoop of vanilla gelato on top. Although I wasn't able to finish the dessert, I seriously regretted it as soon as I returned home -- definitely a dessert for chocolate lovers.

Overall, I'd have to rate the food, service and the experience at Gemma with a B+. My waiter was attentive but he failed to read us the specials (I overheard him gushing them to Amber Tamblyn, who was dining directly behind me) and that bothered me. If I heard the specials, then maybe I would have selected a better entree. The salad and dessert were very delicious but the oxtail ragu was not mind-blowing. I would most certainly eat at Gemma again and think that if any of you guys are in the area (note the first image for the location of the restaurant + hotel), then you should definitely stop by for a bite! [Broke in the City] Diane von Furstenberg Sample Sale

Today was the first day of the bi-annual Diane von Furstenberg Sample Sale. Unfortunately, the sale was every bit of crazy that I'd been reading about online. Women would push you "out of the way" in order to browse the racks, remove garments from "your area" or your hands if they were particularly bold and let me not forget to mention the women with infants. In the great city of New York, where plenty of new mothers are jobless spendthrifts with foreign nannies, I cannot understand bringing a child into the wilderness of a DVF sample sale. I witnessed children being knocked around like balls in a pinball machine so that their mothers could try on a dozen looks at a time. Fortunately, I went prepared: I wore baggy denim shorts, an oversized t-shirt and flats. I also brought a bottle of water because the space where the sale was being held was hotter than the devil's ass hole. Luckily, I left the sale with the two darling pieces that you see above. I probably won't return until the next sale (sometime later this year) but I do know what to expect in the future: ravenous shoppers.

The internet has been buzzing with all of the Mac rumors and their latest progeny, iCloud but I want to share with you an acid-trip of a shopping experience that I had at Patricia Field. For those of you who aren't from NYC, haven't watched Sex and the City and/or have been living underneath a rock for the last 20 or so years, Patricia Field is the end for all that is fashion styling and costume. Field's shop boasts of every possible accessory you can think of from rhinestone embellished bra tops to bondage-esque faux leather bottoms for men. And it doesn't matter what your personal style sensibilities are, there is something for everyone in Patricia Field. And if you thought the buck stopped with trinkets and embellishments, you're wrong. In addition to the friendly and knowledge sales associates, Patricia Field even has a full service beauty parlor downstairs, complete with vanity mirrors and of course, wigs galore. So if you're just visiting NYC and have about an hour to kill or are looking for the seemingly impossible (or the unusual), then you should head over to 302 Bowery and satisfy your fashion curiosity.

[White Hot] A Summer Engagement @ Red Bull Space, Soho

Last week, Lauren and I had the pleasure of attending an event at the amazing Red Bull Space in Soho. Since my return to NYC, I've noticed quite a few women wearing white pantsuits and/or tailored jackets. Never one to miss a fashion beat, Lauren was right on trend with her take on the new summer masculine. I love her slightly unstructured blazer with cuffed sleeves, the high-waist bandage skirt paired with (for an added surprise) a bathing suit. I love Lauren's interpretation of the current trend; instead of just imitating what a celebrity has worn, her look is personalized. She's just another reason why I'd rather post what my friends wear in-real-life than some intangible celebrity. Fashion for the people, always.

I shot Lauren while we were in Costa Rica this year in American Apparel's Tricot Side-Tie Bikini. I was impressed with the Tricot's ability to maintain its vibrant shine after repeated trips to the saltwater beaches of Manuel Antonio. But the Tricot is not for the shy, with a high-cut bikini bottom and barely there triangle top, you'd better be ready to put your best body forward.

The Queen's New Glasses (well, sorta)

After four long years, I am finally getting a new pair of glasses! For those of you who wear glasses on the regular and not for the sake of fashion, you understand the importance of your frames. My glasses are an extension of who I am and selecting the right pair is just crucial as having straight teeth.

I was originally dead set on the Warby Parker Crosby (see above) in Revolver. But after stopping by the Warby Parker office in New York and having an amazing chat with a representative named Zac, I decided on Greystone instead.

I should receive my new glasses sometime next week. I'll definitely keep you guys posted on the final product. If any of you have any questions about the process, feel free to message me!

Disappointed (humph!)

If you follow my blog, then you'll know that I am not a huge fan of hypocrites. Although I am not a friend to Karl Lagerfeld or Ann Demeulemeester, I am so upset and shocked that Jane from Sea of Shoes would have the audacity to post her anger at designer for an intellectual property matter.

As you know, Jane has always been so proud of her monstrous shoe collection. Jane has been photographed wearing footwear from notable designers such as Chanel, Prada, Miu Miu and of course, Ann Demeulemeester on many occasions. It must have been a real sting to see Jane's knock-off collection on Urban Outfitters back in October 2009 for namely, Lagerfeld, Miuccia and Demeulemeester. Now, I am even more disappointed to see a post on her blog attacking another designer for committing the same intellectual property crime. Shame on Jane for taking credit for designs that were not hers for the sake of re-lining her already golden pockets. Shame on Jane, again, for calling the kettle black for doing the very same thing.

I purchased the above T by Alexander Wang Tencel Variegated Rib Dress (yes, the style name is seriously that long) from shopbop a few months ago with a credit that I was dying to use. I didn't want to spend the money on something I'd normally buy, so I figured I'd use the opportunity to go outside of my comfort zone. Alexander Wang is definitely outside of my comfort zone. I've never been a huge fan of his "designs," but was absolutely smitten with the color of the dress. I think nude is my new black.

A Reason to be Beautiful: Gwen Stefani on the cover of Elle

Gwen Stefani is the definition of goddess.

It is hard to believe that this woman, wife, mother of two, with an incredible music career spanning over two decades, also fronts and manages the very lucrative fashion lines L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers. And she does it all with a very radiant smile.

While grocery shopping recently, I noticed the above cover image to the May issue of Elle magazine. Elle truly outdid themselves; the image is not only stunning but captivating. All of the other May magazine covers were pale in comparison. The May issue of Elle is their music issue, with pages filled with fashion and fashion details concerning not only well-known musical artists but up and coming artists as well. I love when major magazine feature up and coming artists; I can only stomach so much Lady Gaga and Beyonce these days.

If any of you fabulous readers happen to own the copy of the May issue of Elle and want to comment on some of the pieces in it below, then you are more than welcome to do so. I will probably pick up the magazine in a week or so and do a post on a few of the pieces.

You won't catch this fashion blogger wearing the Jeffrey Campbell Lita. The fashion blogosphere has absolutely promoted those shoes to death. And even if they hadn't, I still wouldn't wear them because they just don't suit my personal style. However, the recently released Jeffrey Campbell Lana is a different story. I'm completely sold on the curved stacked here, softly reminiscent of DSquared's Fall 2010 curved skeletal heels. The seamed bump-toe also reminds me of the ubiquitous Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Too Double Platform Pump. The Lana has high fashion features while maintaining serious street credibility.

If anyone has a sample in a size 9 that they'd like me to test drive, my feet are all yours.

Luck be a lady: Rebecca Taylor's Day to Date

Sometimes, fashion dreams to come true.

Last spring, Rebecca Taylor released the Day to Date dress, a silk crepe dress with a ruffled caftan neckline + scalloped trim, bishop sleeves with button cuffs, a cinched drawstring waist, and tiered skirt. At the time, I was a relatively poor law student and couldn't afford the $295 price tag at Net-A-Porter. And as luck would have it (bad luck that is) the dress went on sale, with my size selling out immediately. Needless to say I was bummed.

A few days ago, while skimming my friend's closet, I came across the Day to Date dress, haplessly laying across a hanger. After an excited conversation about a dress swap, my friend gave me her basically brand new Day to Date dress in Ultra Violet in exchange for my Foley Shirred Corset Dress. I was thrilled! Trying to find a dress from a past season, brand new and authentic (cough::eBay::cough) is nearly impossible; I'm extremely happy with the exchange. Don't get me wrong, the Foley dress is quite beautiful but I never once wore it. And after hanging out in various closets of mine for the past 4 years, exchanging her for a dress I will wear until the seams come apart was a brilliant idea. Bring on summer in the city already!

I bought this Kate and Kass dress a few years ago and have only worn it a few times. Hard to believe considering how beautifully the silk drapes across my body. I did a quick search on Google to see if there was anything for spring 2011. Unfortunately, the label hasn't released anything since 2008. I'm actually really bummed because I've fallen in love with the dress all over again and would love to continue the 70s aesthetic into the summer.

According to the Kate and Kass bio, Kate and Kass founder Anya Teresse is currently working with Nicole Richie on her clothing line Winter Kate. I never really looked into Winter Kate as I'm not one to follow celebrity fashion lines, however, I may have to reconsider. After all, Anya I share more than our love of baby doll silhouettes; we both attended Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles!

Ralph Lauren's Big Pony #2 Fragrance Smells Like Desperation

I've always understood the Ralph Lauren brand to be American luxury, at its finest. Whether purchasing a cable knit sweater dress from their diffusion line Rugby or a tailored blazer from Lauren, the quality was always the same: exquisite. Ralph Lauren's line of luxury extends beyond the showroom; Ralph Lauren is a lifestyle with a wealth of antiquity. Now you can image my surprise when I came across the above video for Ralph Lauren's Big Pony #2 Fragrance starring Rumi Neely and Colin Sokol of Fashion Toast.

Fashion Toast is a hodgepodge of styles, primarily those that are always apart of fashion's mainstream forecast. Personally, I don't need one more outlet telling me what's in and what I should be wearing, but she seems to be doing quite well for herself. At first, I couldn't make sense of Ralph Lauren's endorsement of a personal style blogger so different from everything that the brand represents and then it hit me -- it's all about the benjamins, baby.

Fashion Toast is the number one personal style blog in the world, thanks to her fans' insatiable appetite for beautiful images of a pretty girl living a very charmed life. Unfortunately, Fashion Toast doesn't translate very well from still life to motion picture as the above ad is quite possibly, the most uncomfortable footage I've ever watched just short of porn. I am pretty surprised at how uncomfortable Neely and Sokol appear considering that they are in a relationship. One would imagine that a boyfriend + girlfriend duo would have no trouble emoting, especially when they're getting paid to play. I guess Jay-Z was right about "Hollywood," it ain't for everybody.

It is clear from the video that Ralph Lauren isn't concerned with quality but rather the quantity of purchases that will be made of Big Pony #2, thanks to Neely and Sokol's ravenous legion of consumers. Ralph Lauren has selected their fashion midas, and at the moment, her touch is worth its weight in gold.

I have worn the same pair of Prada eyeglasses for the last five years. I have also seen my very style of Prada eyeglasses on probably no less than 50 women in New York City. It is time for a change. I'm too young to feel this old. Law school is rapidly coming to an end and I don't feel anymore sorted about it than when I began. I suppose I could say the same thing about this blog but it continues as I continue. I'm not certain about my future, where I want to go or what I want to be when I grow up. I'll be a lawyer on paper, yes, but where I will go with that title, I remain painfully uncertain. For now, my main focus is to finish strong so that when I look back on the end of this period of my life, I will feel satisfied with at least one moment.

I randomly wandered into the local Abercrombie a few weeks back, not expecting to find anything since I'm no longer in high school -- or at the very least college. But a great spring skirt is a great spring skirt -- 100% cotton, trimmed with eyelet and ultra comfortable -- the Blythe was precisely what my wardrobe needed. No regrets.

QOH's Spring + Summer 2011 Scents

Frankly my dears, I'm a little too old to smell like teen spirit. The above bottles are the scents that I've been enamored with for the past few weeks. My time with the usual suspects (e.g. Chanel No. 5, Chance + Mademoiselle, anything Burberry, Gucci Rush...) is over. The time for new sensual scents is now. Here's a breakdown of my royal flowery crew:

Cartier De Lune: De Lune is a great perfume to apply the moment you've stepped out of the shower. It is light, fresh and soft with hints of lily and rose. My only complaint about the scent speaks to the core of what it is: an eau de toilette. Eau de toilettes have a lower percentage of the fragrant oils found in perfumes. Translation: shorter scent life + frequent application = an expensive scent habit.

Chloe Rosebud: Ever since I discovered Chloe's signature eau de parfum last October, I've been hooked on the fashion house's scents. The limited-edition Rosebud features the classic Chloe bottle with a pink rose ribbon to signify the emphasis on the rose note in this new Chloe perfume. The staying power of Rosebud is considerably stronger and more noticeable than Cartier De Lune. Rosebud is my go-to daytime scent which I apply just before running out of the door. It is unfortunate that Rosebud is a limited-edition scent as I would have loved to wear it as an annual spring + summer fragrance.

Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne: I actually bought Parisienne before I knew Rosebud even existed as a substitute for my usual Chloe eau de parfum. I already had Cartier De Lune, but De Lune just didn't have enough staying power for my fragrance needs. Although Parisienne, too, shares in the rose notes like the above two fragrances, Parisienne has a more "wood" texture to the scent. Perhaps that is why I usually wear Parisienne during the evenings and for late nights; the scent is light but heavy with a sensual mood.

QOH's Spring + Summer 2011 Footwear Court

I'm a firm believer in investing in pieces that will last. Sure, for a few hundred dollars, you can buy dozens of inexpensive pieces that will be around for a few weeks to a few months. But I wouldn't be caught dead in something that, after several wears, smelled like a nursing home. The above images are all of the shoes that I currently have in rotation for the next two seasons. You'll notice a strange array of textures to leathers to boots but I will wear them all.

And for those of you wondering about the Jeffrey Campbell Brit Wrap Strap Booties, the above pair is not the original pair that I purchased from shopbop last year. They are actually a pair that I received directly from Jeffrey Campbell after this post on the quality of the boots that I received from shopbop. Jeffrey Campbell's customer service is impeccable. The young woman that worked with me was not only attentive but extremely kind. Jeffrey Campbell takes quality concerns very seriously, which is refreshing in a fashion market where quantity seems to be trumping quality as of late.
So far, the new boots have held up rather well. The sole is still attached and the leather has survived considerable beatings. I suppose my only true remaining complaint would be the slouchy quality of the boot. I don't particularly care for that. Although some improvements have been made to aid the boot in maintaining structure, it still slouches over time. Nevertheless, I am pleased with the new pair overall and will continue to wear them until they fall apart. A big thank you to Jeffrey Campbell for addressing my concerns!

The beaches and waterfalls of Quepos + Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

Seriously, my recent trip to Costa Rica was one of the most memorable trips overseas that I've taken to date. If you have an opportunity to travel, I highly recommend traveling to Costa Rica. Though the area that we stayed in was relatively high on the tourist radar, I never had that "spring break" feel that I probably would have gotten if we went to Mexico or Puerto Rico. I have more pictures to come, just give me a few weeks, lol.

Blake Lively, "a living, breathing human" for the world of aliens.

Fox Mulder was right, the truth is out there. Blake Lively is single-handedly saving the fashion world with her positive energy, smiles and fashion sensibilities. Hurray! You know, while the rest of us prawns are busy sifting through scrap metal in our own respective District 9s. Two weeks ago, Ms. Lively landed on fashion planet earth in New York, where Chanel had organized a fabulous dinner to introduce her as the new face of the fashion house's Mademoiselle handbag ad campaign. And don't expect to see a prawn such as yourself featured in a Mademoiselle ad campaign anytime soon. Past representatives for Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag ad campaigns have included Keira Knightley, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis; women I'm surprised, who haven't dropped dead from malnutrition and/or drug abuse. However, Lively stands apart from those women (excluding Moss) not only for her fantastic figure but her ability to dress herself (perish the thought). Imagine with me now folks, a life of leisure and millions because you can dress yourself! Sounds lovely. For Lively, stylists are mere interpreters of style, they can't produce an individual's authentic style. And she's right, you know. I mean like, how could they? They don't even like, know Lively!

Lively is our fashion savior. She's the all-American who isn't all-American. She's stylish without a stylist. She's a California girl with east coast credibility vis-a-vis Gossip Girl. She's the American face of a major European house. And with magazine covers for accolades, a massive closet filled with couture and Louboutins, Lively manages to juggle it all without street drugs, shots of Patron and sex tapes. She's optimistic, not in rehab and everything you are not. Maybe it's time for us to all take a cue from the second-coming of fashion's Christ when we're having bad days (like today) and "just eat lots of chocolate ice cream and dance to the 'Lion King' soundtrack." Or not.
