Yesterday, I had the opportunity to view Whit's Fall 2013 Presentation at the W Hotel in Union Square, New York. The collection's designer, Whitney Pozgay, was inspired by romantic movements and themes, with heavy emphasis placed on a young Marianne Faithfull, a 60s pop and rock icon. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Faithfull, her successes were overshadowed by her struggle with substance abuse during the 70s. Perhaps that was what Pozgay was echoing with her collection, how closely held the light of the romantic and the dark of substance abuse were to Faithful and others during that period.
For accents, the accessories were played up with whimsical elements, such as animal skins and patterned fabrics reminiscent of artist Jemme Aldridge, a local New York artist. Overall, I found the collection to be true to its free-spirit inspiration and was delighted that the interpretation wasn't the usual love and peace. The collection played with dark and in a most tangible way.
