On why Andrew got Kelly's assistant position: “I got tired of interviewing blond girl after blond girl and their ‘Hi! I’m really excited to be here!’ He showed up in all black and I think he had a skirt on.” I guess the age of Whitney Port is over? We’ll see when Season 3 of The City returns this fall.
Remember the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal of ’08? Well, Ashley Dupre aka Spitzer’s main pros, was spotted sitting front row at Yigal Azrouel’s ’09 Fall Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week and guess which public relations firm was responsible for the seating at that show? People’s Revolution. And what does Kelly have to say about Ashley being splashed on the front page of the Post for her fashion publicity stunt? “She looks hot. She looks like the kind of woman who’d fuck your husband and ruin your life.” I’m sure Mr. and Mrs. Spitzer and their three children would agree. But before you go throwing stones at The God, she defends her comments with basically stating the obvious: “half the people sitting in your front row are fucking people for money, they’re just called wives.” I mean, she’s right, “we’re all hookers” when you really get down to the nitty-gritty of dating and relationships. [and in case you’re wondering, Yigal totally gave The God and her company the boot for Ashleygate]
The God points out something that is very crucial not just in fashion but in life; the importance of being grateful. After every event, designer Deflin always said thank you to Kelly and to all those involved in assisting with his show. Showing gratitude will really take you far, especially in an industry of self-importance and taking individuals for granted constantly.
How real is this show: The God not only works but LIVES in the same building as People’s Revolution. Talk about being married to your job! And what’s more, one of her CEOs ALSO lives in the building, in a small room behind a showroom. We’re all accustomed to seeing the fabulous lives of celebrities, socialites and fashion power players so I can’t tell you how refreshing it was to see someone such as Robyn facing the same struggles like the rest of us -- the broad is homeless! Now this is reality tv!
The God & Ava: honestly, if I didn’t love Kelly before, I am practically obsessed now. The father of her child left her while she was pregnant, forcing Kelly to not only prepare for motherhood alone but for becoming the sole provider. And in just several years, she’s built one of the most readily recognizable public relations firms in the country. She makes time for her daughter, she works around the clock and she doesn’t depend on a man or a trust fund. “It is not a choice for me, I have to work.” PREACH!
“A lot of people like to use couture like ‘oh Juicy Couture’ or ‘I have a couture dress’ -- no you don’t.” -- Kelly
Fashion Week politics: “Your seat determines power-money-status-importance; where you are in the game. If you aren’t in rows 1, 2 or 3 then you aren’t in the game.” And even Ava gets in on the action with “I don’t want to dress up if I’m going to be in the 3rd row. If you’re going to dress up, you want people to see you.” She’s quite possibly, the coolest 7 year-old I’ve ever encountered. She gets it and she’s in elementary school. Gotta love city raised kids.
Stefanie Skinner: I have a special request. Please, GET SOME SLEEP! If I have to look at those raccoon black eyes for the entire season, I’m going to go down to People’s Revolution and drag you to bed and keep you there for the rest of the year! I’ve never seen a more frightening looking fashion representative in my life! I mean, The God gets a free pass because she’s the boss, but as a minion, you really should look your best.
And the take-away quote from the episode: "I don’t speak to him anymore. He’s like Sicilian dead to me.” - The God
