[Indian Summer] All Hail the Queen

My friends up north wish it were that warm. I'm currently on vacation in Florida, soaking up as much sun as humanly possible. I mean, can you blame me? I'm a recent law school graduate, who is unemployed and miserable.

I vow to only do outfit posts on what I actually wear. I really can't stand fashion blogger fame and dressing up just to have my picture taken. So if I'm wearing something you like (or dislike) trust that it is actually apart of my "personal style," whatever nebulous thing that is...

[Lights Out] Happy Birthday to Me

I apologize for my absence. I've been busy trying to sort out my life but not too busy to enjoy my birthday dinner with some close girlfriends. We enjoyed a wonderful meal Cipriani Downtown. Lauren has dined at Cipriani many times, so we had a wonderful selection appetizers, entrees and deserts. Above is an image of my entree, the sea bass. I highly recommend it.

I'm usual known for wearing the uniform on a daily basis, I decided to dress up a bit with an AKA blouse, Pleasure Doing Business bandage skirt, Rachel Leigh necklace and Prada leopard animal fur heels. I was affectionately known for the evening as the "black Kardashian."

After dinner, we grabbed a table at The Soho Grand and enjoyed a bottle of my favorite champagne, Veuve Clicquotwhile we danced the night away. Eventually, we found ourselves on the LES and in the middle of a major rainstorm but overall, I had a really enjoyable night. Although friends may come and go like seasons, I feel very thankful for those who are ever-present in my life.

Hot child in the city / Boston

Shirt: Pins and Needles [on sale in store for $19]
Shorts: Rugby
Bracelets: Rachel Leigh
Shoes: Cynthia Vincent

I try to keep it simple in the summer. For me the formula is: cotton top + cotton shorts + wedges. Sounds boring? Well, look at the details. I lurve puffy shoulders and pleated + unusual buttoning front shorts. I consider this the uniform upgrade; instead of a cotton t-shirt and denim shorts, here's something a little fancier -- dare I say, fresher?

Brace Yourself / Rachel Leigh

I've been actively looking for some more TEETH to add to my wardrobe, when I remembered a bracelet on my REVOLVE wish-list that I've been lusting after for months now. Rachel Leigh's Audrey Enamel Bow Bracelet: a fun, flirty bit for my wrist, to rest comfortably next to my giant gold watch. The Audrey is an essential: she comes in my two basic jewelry color groups, gold & black and with a hyperreal bow which always reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. The logical progression from my wish-list was to the designer's website, so that I could take a gander at some more of her fabulous wares. Check out some of my favorite pieces from her current bracelet collection:

Rachel Leigh Bracelet Sampler

What I love about the collection: there's an array of pieces from the vintage-inspired  with a regal flare to the edgy, modern and heavily constructed. There are bracelets and cuffs that can stand on their own or be layered with others to create a substantial wrist look.

Where to buy: Rachel Leigh, REVOLVEclothing and Shopbop.

What else you should check out: definitely take a look at all of her collections but focus on the necklaces and the headbands. You'll see loads of intricate layering, dewy stones in settings fit for royalty and headbands that will be sure to turn heads in the fall.

Also, stay up-to-date with the latest from Rachel Leigh here. See who's wearing her now and what's on her style forecast for jewelry in the fall.

I keep dreaming of what to wear during summer in the city: hot steamy nights, dewy skin, silk dresses and tops, toned legs and unruly hair. I also like to rock out during the day in skinny jeans, shredded tees, edgy wedges and accessories painted black.

But its not summer. Heck, it isn't even spring. Now is the winter of my discontent.

So in my downtime (I literally laughed out loud at that because I really don't have downtime), I like to browse around and see if there's anything new and worth getting excited about. In the past I've talked about some pieces from Tracy Reese and Tolani but I needed a more comprehensive shopping universe.

After taking out my fine-toothed fashion comb, here are a few pieces that I absolutely must have for my wardrobe. I really don't shop by trends (I think that's pretty clear by now) but rather based on my own bi-polar personal style. I've also tried to add more color to the sea of black that my closet has become consumed with.
